About
I am a 77 year old South African male. In December 2024, I was diagnosed with locally advanced pancreatic adenocarcinoma, a tumor measuring 56 x 54mm. The prognosis was blunt and alarming, the statistics were not in my favour (8 months to a year), and the treatment plan was tough. I chose to approach it the only way I knew how: with structure, research, discipline, and determination
My journey involved intensive chemotherapy, adapting nutrition, a daily exercise regime and learning to live with the effects of chemotherapy.
Today the tumor that threatened my life is undetectable on MRI & PET imaging. This does not mean I'm cured, but rather that I have a “hibernating bear” that can be controlled under careful, continual monitoring. No complacency, just vigilance.
I’ve written a memoir, "Reclaiming My Tomorrows", not to offer miracle stories or medical advice, but to share my experience of engaging fully with this diagnosis rather than retreating from it.
If my reflections on treatment, mindset, or coping strategies are helpful to anyone here, I’m glad to share and to learn from others walking this path.
Wishing strength and recovery to you all.
